US Citizens Face Deadlines for 2026 Midterm Elections

The Federal government of the United States is advising domestic and overseas citizens to register and request ballots for the November 3 midterm elections.

The Federal government of the United States is directing citizens to finalize voter registration and ballot requests ahead of the midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3. These elections will determine the control of the House of Representatives and approximately one-third of the Senate during the second term of President Donald Trump.

Overseas citizens in Italy, Germany, and Austria are facing specific deadlines to request absentee ballots via the Federal Post Card Application. While registration is a one-time process, ballots must be requested annually. Voters who do not receive official ballots can use the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot as an emergency backup. Return methods vary by state, though all accept postal returns, and some may utilize diplomatic pouches via US embassies and consulates.

Domestic voters are advised to update registration details if they have changed their name, moved, or wish to change party affiliation. Moving across state lines requires a completely new registration in the current state of residence. In Texas, early voting is scheduled to run from October 19 to October 30, 2026.
