BMW Group Unveils Eighth-Generation 3-Series Sedan

The BMW Group unveiled the eighth-generation 3-Series sedan, internally designated as the G50, on September 29 in the United States and September 30 in Europe. The new model adopts the Neue Klasse design philosophy, featuring slimmer, wider grilles and a redesigned cabin with a Panoramic Vision display and a 17.9-inch central touchscreen, mirroring the aesthetic of the electric i3.

At launch, the vehicle offers two petrol engine options: a four-cylinder 320 and a high-performance M350 xDrive. The M350 replaces the M340i xDrive with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine producing 437 hp. Both options utilize mild-hybrid technology and eight-speed automatic transmissions. While the sedan retains an updated version of the CLAR architecture, production has moved from Munich to Dingolfing, and 25% of the construction incorporates recycled materials.

Technological updates include a new AI for natural dialogue powered by Amazon.com, Inc., which will debut first in Germany and the United States. In the United Kingdom, prices start at £44,975 for the 320 and £66,785 for the M350, with deliveries beginning in late January. The M350's rear-wheel-drive mode will be unlocked via an over-the-air update in 2027.

Looking forward, the company confirmed a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain for the European market in 2027 to replace the G20-based 330e. This addition supports the company's "Power of Choice" strategy, bridging the gap between combustion engines and fully electric models.
