A global memory chip shortage has caused a major supply crunch for the MacBook Air. Retail sources report that shipments of new units are more constrained than in recent memory, as manufacturers prioritize high-performance memory for AI servers and data centers over consumer hardware. This shortage affects the MacBook Air alongside the Mac Studio and Mac mini.

Apple Inc. implemented a price increase in June, raising the U.S. entry-level model from $1,099 to $1,299. Despite these higher costs, consumer demand remains strong. New orders in the United States currently face delivery estimates ranging from two to six weeks.

Configurations featuring higher RAM capacities are experiencing the longest delays. The situation highlights a shift in the semiconductor market where the infrastructure requirements for artificial intelligence are limiting the availability of components for traditional consumer electronics.
