Indian Youth Congress Challenges Delhi Police Protest Ban

Indian Youth Congress President Uday Bhanu Chib petitioned the Delhi High Court after police denied permission for a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar.

Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President Uday Bhanu Chib filed a petition with the Delhi High Court challenging the Delhi Police's refusal to allow a peaceful demonstration at Jantar Mantar. The IYC had applied on September 25 for a gathering of 100 to 150 people, but police rejected the request on October 1.

The petition argues that the Delhi Police improperly converted their authority to regulate assemblies into a power to prohibit them, which the IYC claims violates constitutional rights to free speech and assembly.

This legal challenge follows a separate action on October 2, where Chib led IYC workers dressed as "living ghosts" to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities. During that event, police blocked the march from the IYC office on Raisina Road to Jantar Mantar.
