MoonPay Acquires North Capital to Expand Tokenized Asset Services

MoonPay acquired North Capital Investment Technology for over $60 million to integrate brokerage tools and SEC licenses for tokenized real-world assets.

MoonPay, a global fiat-to-crypto conversion firm, acquired North Capital Investment Technology on Wednesday to expand its capabilities in the tokenized securities market. While the company did not disclose official financial terms, reports indicate the all-stock transaction was valued at more than $60 million.

Through the acquisition, MoonPay gains North Capital's back-end brokerage tools and a suite of United States Securities and Exchange Commission licenses, including those for investment advisory, transfer agent services, and broker-dealer transactions. The company intends to use these assets to create a regulatory foundation for the mass adoption of tokenized real-world assets, such as equity and debt.

This strategic move follows a recent ruling by the United States Securities and Exchange Commission that allows companies to offer tokenized stocks under an innovators exemption, which lowers the risk of regulatory violations. CEO Ivan Soto-Wright stated that integrating North Capital's capabilities will help connect different parts of the financial system through modern, programmable infrastructure.
