AegisAI Raises $36 Million to Combat AI Spear Phishing

Email security startup AegisAI raised $36 million in a Series A funding round led by Battery Ventures, with participation from Accel and Foundation Capital. The investment brings the company's total funding to $49 million. Founded by former Google security executives Cy Khormaee and Ryan Luo, the company uses autonomous AI agents and large language models to counter AI spear phishing, a tactic where attackers use AI to create personalized lures that bypass traditional filters.

The company will use the new capital to scale its defense agents and accelerate the general availability of Vanguard, a tool designed to investigate threats across the open web. AegisAI has already deployed its technology for customers including Mesh, LangChain, and Lokker to address the rise in business email compromise and AI-generated attacks.
