IndiGo Launches Direct Flights Between Gaya and Bangkok
IndiGo will start twice-weekly non-stop flights between Gaya, India, and Bangkok, Thailand, on October 26 to boost Buddhist pilgrimage and religious tourism.
IndiGo will launch non-stop, twice-weekly flights between Gaya, India, and Bangkok, Thailand, beginning October 26, 2026. The service will operate every Monday and Thursday, connecting Thailand's capital with Bodh Gaya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the Mahabodhi Temple where Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment.
The airline intends to target demand from Buddhist pilgrims and leisure travelers to support cultural exchange and economic activity in the Indian state of Bihar. This expansion increases IndiGo's existing network of more than 140 weekly flights between India and Thailand.
The move occurs amid intensifying geopolitical competition between India and China for influence over the future of Buddhism in Asia.
