Oman Urges Security for Strait of Hormuz at WTO Forum

Oman's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations, Idris bin Abdulrahman al Khanjari, advocated for the security of the Strait of Hormuz during the World Trade Organization's Public Forum 2026 in Geneva. Speaking at a session organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, Al Khanjari described the strait as a vital artery of global trade and energy.

Al Khanjari warned that disruptions in the corridor increase shipping, insurance, energy, and food costs, which disproportionately impact developing economies. He stated that maintaining communication channels helps build trust and create conditions for peaceful solutions.

The Government of Oman is currently conducting consultations with Iran and Gulf Cooperation Council states to establish practical understandings for safe and unhindered navigation. Al Khanjari emphasized that Oman utilizes constructive neutrality and quiet diplomacy to address these regional challenges.
