JPMorgan and Ark Invest Issue Divergent Bitcoin Forecasts

JPMorgan Asset Management projects 10% annualized returns for Bitcoin through 2041, while Ark Invest forecasts the asset could reach $800,000 by 2030.

Financial institutions have released conflicting long-term projections for Bitcoin, highlighting a divide between aggressive growth forecasts and cautious institutional analysis. Ark Invest predicts the cryptocurrency could reach nearly $800,000 by 2030, positioning it as a high-growth asset.

In contrast, JPMorgan Asset Management forecasts a base case of 10% annualized returns over the next 10 to 15 years. In its 2027 Long-Term Capital Market Assumptions report, the firm suggests Bitcoin will outperform U.S. large-cap stocks, gold, and U.S. bonds, which it projects at 7.5%, 5.5%, and 5.6% to 6.6% respectively. However, the firm maintains a wide range of potential outcomes, including a bull case of 16.5% and a bear case of -11.2%, while noting the theoretical possibility that the asset could drop to zero.

Despite the positive base-case return, JPMorgan does not recommend Bitcoin for portfolio allocation. The firm cites an estimated annualized volatility of 55%—significantly higher than the 18% seen in large-cap stocks—and unstable correlations with other assets as primary obstacles to using the cryptocurrency as a hedge. Market commentary suggests Bitcoin remains a safer investment than volatile altcoins like Solana and Ethereum, with its future utility depending on institutional trust and the adoption of quantum-safe encryption.
