Circle Expands Stablecoin Reach to 40 Emerging Markets

Circle is expanding its stablecoin operations into 40 emerging markets across Southeast Asia, Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East.

Circle, the world's largest regulated stablecoin issuer, is expanding its operations into approximately 40 emerging and developing markets across Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The expansion is supported by a $400 million acquisition of Tazapay and a $100 million strategic investment from Binance.

CEO Jeremy Allaire announced the strategy in Bangkok, stating that blockchain technology is moving from an early adopter phase into a mainstream scaling phase. Allaire identified the U.S. Genius Act, which takes effect next January, as a watershed moment that will establish legal digital dollars. He also noted that the banking industry is no longer in charge as innovators gain ground.

Financial growth for the company has been significant, with USDC circulation rising 19 percent year-over-year to $73.3 billion in the second quarter of 2026. This growth is being driven by organic demand and machine-to-machine transactions among AI agents. While expanding, Allaire warned that the rise of AI introduces security vulnerabilities and threats from automated agent swarms.
