Michigan Reports 1.39 Million Early Ballots Cast
Michigan Secretary of State reports 1.39 million voters cast ballots early for the November 3 general election, including a high-profile U.S. Senate race.
More than 1.39 million registered voters in Michigan have cast their ballots ahead of the November 3 general election, according to the Secretary of State’s office. This total represents 18.8% of active registered voters, with over 1.1 million using absentee ballots and 215,795 voting at early in-person sites that opened on October 24.
Aghogho Edevbie, the Deputy Secretary of State, described the first weekend of early in-person voting as a great success, noting that voters are using the convenient option to cast ballots before Election Day.
The election features a closely watched U.S. Senate race to replace retiring Senator Gary Peters. Democratic nominee Abdul El-Sayed, a former Detroit health director, is competing against Republican nominee and former Representative Mike Rogers. El-Sayed has focused his campaign on taxing billionaires and affordable health care, though he has explicitly rejected the socialist label.
In addition to the Senate contest, Michigan voters will decide who will succeed term-limited Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
