Temporary hiring across India's organized retail, e-commerce, logistics, and FMCG sectors is projected to grow by 15-20% during the 2026 festive season. According to the Festive Season Workforce Report 2026 by TeamLease Services, this growth is driven by a shift from volume-based recruitment toward precision hiring for specialized frontline roles, such as warehouse automation operators and fulfillment coordinators.

Quick commerce platforms are the primary catalysts for this surge, with some estimates suggesting the creation of 100,000 to 300,000 seasonal jobs. Recruitment firms report that quick commerce now accounts for 30% to 45% of total festive flexible workforce demand, a significant increase from previous years. This demand is concentrated in South and West India, with tier-I metros expected to comprise 40.5% of the frontline workforce as companies expand their dark-store networks.

Employers are prioritizing tech-savvy talent proficient in AI-driven vehicle routing, RFID scanners, and warehouse systems. While frontline salaries are estimated to rise 8-10% in the second half of 2026, labor law changes may limit actual take-home pay increases to 5-8%. To manage retention and productivity, companies are implementing digital onboarding, attendance bonuses, and surge pay. Seasonal wages in metro cities are expected to rise by 12-15%, while tier-II and emerging cities may see increases of 18-22%.
