Florida and Bahamas Review Voter Registration Procedures

Jerry Holland provided Florida voter registration guidance while Bahamian officials began reviewing the accuracy of their voters' register and biometric card implementation.

Voter registration activities and legislative reviews are underway in Florida and the Bahamas. In Duval County, Jerry Holland advised voters that the deadline to register or update information for the August primary is Monday. He emphasized the necessity of signature consistency for mail-in ballots to ensure proper verification.

Holland clarified the impact of House Bill 991, stating that while citizenship verification will be required during the registration process starting January 1, 2027, voters will not be required to prove citizenship at polling places. He further noted that individuals lacking state identification would be permitted to vote provisionally and could provide the required ID to the elections office by the Thursday following the election.

Separately, the Parliamentary Commissioner in the Bahamas announced a review of the voter registration process. This initiative follows concerns regarding the administration of the advanced poll and the overall accuracy of the voters' register. Bahamian officials are currently discussing the permanent register and the potential implementation of biometric voter cards before the next general election.
