Uber and Pony.ai to Deploy 2,000 Robotaxis in Europe
Uber and Pony.ai announced a partnership to deploy 2,000 robotaxis across Europe and the Middle East following a successful launch in Croatia.
Uber Technologies Inc. and Chinese autonomous vehicle operator Pony.ai will deploy 2,000 robotaxis across Europe and expand their collaboration into the Middle East. The partnership follows a commercial robotaxi service launch in Zagreb, Croatia, in March. The companies now plan to roll out the service to four additional European cities, although they have not disclosed the specific locations or the timeline for these expansions.
CEO Dara Khosrowshahi stated that the company aims to establish Uber as the leading commercialization platform for autonomous vehicles by gathering extensive data to accelerate development. This strategy involves diversifying its autonomous partnerships beyond the Pony.ai agreement.
Uber is currently pursuing other international autonomous vehicle initiatives, including a pilot program in Madrid with WeRide and a test deployment in Tokyo conducted through a local taxi operator.
