Microsoft Adds AI Phishing Detection to Microsoft Teams

Microsoft is launching an AI-powered security feature for Microsoft Teams in November to detect phishing and identity theft by analyzing conversation behavior.

Microsoft Corporation is introducing an AI-powered security feature for Microsoft Teams to combat phishing, scams, and identity theft. The system analyzes behavioral patterns within conversations to identify suspicious activity, focusing specifically on interactions with new contacts. This approach differs from traditional security tools that primarily scan for malicious files or links.

The update addresses a trend of attackers impersonating help desk staff to secure remote access to user systems. Microsoft stated the tool will be used exclusively for security purposes and will not save messages or utilize them to train AI models. During initial quality validation, detection may run in the background without showing warnings to users, though warnings will appear after validation is complete.

The rollout begins in early November 2026, with general availability expected in the first half of December. The feature will be automatically enabled for users, removing the need for manual configuration by IT teams.
