Iran Deploys Thousands of Security Forces Amid Student Protests
Iranian security forces surged presence in Tehran and other cities to suppress university protests against hijab rules and rising living costs.
The Government of Iran has deployed a massive security presence across Tehran and other major cities to preempt widespread unrest. This buildup includes motorcycle patrols, checkpoints, and plainclothes agents positioned at strategic city squares during Sacred Defense Week. Security personnel are reportedly photographing shops and searching pedestrians' mobile phones for anti-regime material.
The escalation follows protests at Allameh Tabataba’i University, where students demonstrated against compulsory hijab rules, political repression, and rising education and living costs. The National Council of Resistance of Iran alleges that authorities ordered a 100 percent state of readiness for all military and security branches, claiming 51,000 personnel were deployed in Greater Tehran and leave was canceled, though these figures remain unverified.
Reports indicate the regime is calling up civilians trained for urban unrest suppression and releasing some prisoners to assist Basij bases. Simultaneously, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has escalated rhetoric against the United States. Spokesman Hossein Mohebbi called for a change in President Donald Trump's administration while the two nations maintain indirect contacts to end a seven-month conflict.
