Polls Show South Carolina Senate Race as Tossup

Republican Senator Darline Graham is locked in a statistical tie with Democrat Annie Andrews in South Carolina, while Democrats lead in Minnesota.

New York Times/Siena University polls indicate the U.S. Senate race in South Carolina is effectively a tossup, with Republican incumbent Darline Graham leading Democratic nominee Dr. Annie Andrews by less than one percentage point. Graham, who was appointed to the seat following the death of her brother Lindsey Graham, faces scrutiny over her lack of prior elected experience and perceived nepotism.

Democratic momentum in South Carolina has grown through a statewide tour and endorsements from former Governors David Beasley and Jim Hodges. Internal Republican friction has also emerged; Congressman Ralph Norman, who lost the primary runoff to Graham, announced his family will not vote for her, prompting some conservatives to consider write-in votes.

In other battlegrounds, Republican Senator Ashley Moody maintains a six-point lead over Democrat Angie Nixon in Florida. Conversely, Democratic nominee and Lieutenant Governor Peggy Flanagan holds a significant lead over Republican Michele Tafoya in Minnesota, with one poll showing Flanagan leading 54 percent to 40 percent despite local concerns regarding government fraud.
