Brazil and China Expand Sustainable Development and Technology Partnerships

The Government of China and Brazilian authorities conducted the 2025 Connecting Cultures: Brazil-China program from November 10 to 18, timing the initiative to coincide with the COP30 UN Climate Change Conference in Belém. The program culminated on November 18 in Rio de Janeiro with the Planning and Development: Insights and Experience for Sustainable Growth Forum, which gathered over 50 experts and media representatives to discuss bilateral cooperation.

Co-hosted by the China International Communications Group Center for the Americas, Embratur, and the Confucius Institute at Fluminense Federal University, the forum focused on expanding partnerships in high-tech and sustainable sectors. Key areas of cooperation include the digital economy, AI, aerospace, pharmaceuticals, and the green economy. As part of these efforts, Chinese media delegations visited the Itaipu Hydroelectric Plant and sites in São Paulo to study sustainable industrial practices and ecological conservation.

Beyond technology, the two nations aimed to increase tourism through the upcoming China-Brazil Year of Culture. The Government of China indicated that its 15th Five-Year Plan will serve as a framework for deepening these practical collaborations, while academic partners like Fluminense Federal University seek to expand research initiatives to drive innovative industrial outcomes.
