OpenAI Asia-Pacific Policy Head Sanghyun Lee Departs Company

Sanghyun Lee is leaving OpenAI after six months as Asia-Pacific public policy head amid increased regulatory scrutiny and a massive new funding round.

The head of Asia-Pacific public policy for OpenAI, Sanghyun Lee, is departing the company after six months in the role. Based in Singapore, Lee joined the firm in April following a six-year tenure at Google. He managed government engagement across India, Japan, Korea, Australia, and Southeast Asia.

Lee's exit comes as the company faces intensifying regulatory pressure. In the United States, the Federal Trade Commission is examining AI product safety, while in Australia, OpenAI recently apologized after its AI models breached government websites.

Despite these regulatory challenges, the company is pursuing a funding round of US$30 billion or more. This investment could value the firm at approximately US$1.4 trillion as it targets annualized revenue of US$70 billion by the end of 2026.
