Microsoft Adds Permanent OneDrive Backup Opt-Out to Windows 11
Microsoft introduced a permanent opt-out button for OneDrive backup prompts in Windows 11 to eliminate recurring full-screen reminders.
Microsoft introduced a permanent opt-out button for OneDrive backup prompts in the stable Windows 11 25H2 build. The update allows users to dismiss full-screen reminders that previously only offered temporary delays, such as options to skip the prompt or be reminded in three days.
This new feature specifically targets interruptions that appear after system restarts or updates. The opt-out remains effective even on devices where the OneDrive sync client has been uninstalled.
A Microsoft support representative stated that selecting the opt-out does not delete existing files or change current synchronization settings. Although the feature was not listed in the August 27 update notes, it is currently rolling out through server-side configurations and stable installations.
