Becca Balint Wins Third Term in Vermont Congressional Race

U.S. Representative Becca Balint defeated Republican challenger Gerald Malloy to secure a third term in Congress on Tuesday night.

U.S. Representative Becca Balint won reelection to a third term in Congress on Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Gerald Malloy. The Associated Press called the race before 8 p.m. after Balint maintained a lead of over 30 percentage points with 28% of the votes counted.

Balint, the first woman and first openly LGBTQ+ member of Congress from Vermont, focused her campaign on affordability and criticized the tariffs and Iran policy of President Donald Trump. Following her victory, she stated she would continue to push to lower costs and hold the administration accountable.

Malloy, an Army veteran and defense contractor, attempted to distance himself from Trump during the campaign. He advocated for recruiting businesses to Vermont and proposed a less aggressive approach to immigration enforcement, arguing that the government should not track every undocumented person, including farmworkers and hotel maids. Several independent candidates also competed in the race, though each received approximately 1% of the vote.
