Former CEO Tony Thene Returns to Carpenter Technology

Carpenter Technology Corp. announced that former CEO Tony Thene will return to the chief executive role effective immediately following the sudden and unexpected death of Brian Malloy. Malloy, 59, died on July 25, 2026, just three weeks after assuming the leadership position on July 1.

Malloy had previously served as the company's chief operating officer and joined the firm in 2015. The Philadelphia-based manufacturer, which specializes in stainless-steel alloys for the aerospace, defense, and medical sectors and is valued at approximately $3 billion, did not disclose a cause of death. Thene, who led the company from 2015 through June 2026, will return as CEO while continuing his role as executive chairman.

Shares of the corporation fell between 4 percent and 4.6 percent on Monday, dropping to around $580 following the news. Despite the leadership change, the company confirmed that a scheduled investor call to report quarterly financial results this Thursday will proceed as planned.
