SpaceX Goes Public as Tesla Shifts Toward AI Platform
Space Exploration Technologies Corp. has listed publicly, allowing investors to hold stakes in both Elon Musk's aerospace venture and his AI-focused Tesla.
Investors can now hold stakes in two of Elon Musk's primary ventures following the public listing of Space Exploration Technologies Corp. The move provides public access to SpaceX's orbital infrastructure operations, which include a rocket launch business for commercial and government payloads and the Starlink broadband network currently serving 12 million subscribers.
This listing coincides with a strategic transition at Tesla. The company is moving away from its identity as a traditional electric vehicle manufacturer to become a software- and AI-driven platform business. This shift focuses on the development of robotaxis and the Optimus general-purpose robot to create recurring value through AI platforms.
While both companies are led by Musk, they pursue divergent business models. SpaceX focuses on the expansion of physical and digital infrastructure in space, whereas Tesla aims to dominate the AI and robotics software market.
