India Mutual Fund SIPs Hit Record Rs 32,490 Crore
India's mutual fund industry saw record SIP contributions and surging equity inflows in September 2026 despite massive withdrawals from debt schemes.
India's mutual fund industry recorded a record high of Rs 32,490 crore in monthly systematic investment plan (SIP) contributions for September 2026, up from Rs 32,297 crore in August. The Association of Mutual Funds in India reported that approximately 63 lakh new SIPs were registered during the month, bringing total SIP assets under management to Rs 17.86 lakh crore.
Equity net inflows surged 30.61% to Rs 38,306.55 crore, marking a five-month high. Small-cap funds led this growth with Rs 9,038.57 crore in inflows, followed by mid-cap funds at Rs 7,834.84 crore. However, these gains were offset by a net outflow of approximately Rs 1.33 lakh crore across the broader industry, primarily due to massive withdrawals from debt schemes totaling Rs 1,83,155.76 crore. Liquid funds were the hardest hit, seeing outflows of Rs 95,743.20 crore.
Total assets under management for the industry fell 5.1% to Rs 82.64 lakh crore from Rs 87.08 lakh crore in August, a decline driven by net debt fund outflows and mark-to-market losses. Venkat Chalasani, CEO of the Association of Mutual Funds in India, stated that the equity inflows reflect investor confidence in the industry and the country's economic growth prospects despite global headwinds.
