Australian Job Advertisements Rise in July Despite Interest Rate Hikes
Australia and New Zealand Banking Group and Indeed report a 0.8% increase in July job advertisements as labor demand remains resilient despite rising interest rates.
Australia and New Zealand Banking Group and Indeed reported that Australian job advertisements increased by 0.8% in July, rebounding from a 0.1% decline recorded in June. Job postings currently stand 2.1% higher than in July of the previous year and remain 16.2% above the ten-year average.
Growth across the labor market was broad-based, with the most significant gains appearing in management, physician, and surgeon roles. Nursing also ranks among the fastest-growing occupations over the last year.
This resilience in labor demand persists even as the Reserve Bank of Australia raised interest rates three times this year to 4.35% in an effort to combat inflation. Previous data from June indicated that the economy added 76,300 net jobs, while the unemployment rate held steady at 4.4%.
