Nomura Report Finds AI Creating More Jobs in India
Nomura Holdings Inc. reports that AI-related hiring in India is outpacing job losses, though the technology is creating a two-tier labor market.
Nomura Holdings Inc. reports that artificial intelligence is creating more jobs than it eliminates in India, challenging common narratives of massive job losses. Data analyzed from 2022 through August 2026 shows India recorded 83,100 AI-related hires against 31,921 layoffs and attrition.
Across Asia, the trend is similar, with 130,758 AI-related jobs created primarily in technology, while 60,654 jobs were lost, mostly in financial services. While chatbots are replacing support teams, firms are actively hiring IT-services graduates to meet the growing demand for AI capabilities.
Nomura economists warn that these aggregate figures mask distributional pain. Displaced workers rarely transition into AI engineering roles, leading to a two-tier labor market. This shift reduces demand for entry-level workers while increasing the need for experienced employees who possess deep business context.
