Mike Flood Wins Reelection to Nebraska's 1st Congressional District
Republican Congressman Mike Flood secured a third term in Nebraska's 1st Congressional District after Democratic challenger Chris Backemeyer conceded the race on Wednesday.
Republican Congressman Mike Flood won reelection to Nebraska's 1st Congressional District on November 4, 2026. Democratic challenger Chris Backemeyer conceded the race Wednesday morning via a phone call, prior to a victory event at the Nebraska Republican Party headquarters in Lincoln. As of 10 a.m. Wednesday, Flood held a lead of approximately 9,000 votes over Backemeyer with 91% of ballots counted.
Flood celebrated the victory alongside other reelected Nebraska Republicans, including U.S. Senators Deb Fischer and Pete Ricketts, Attorney General Mike Hilgers, State Treasurer Joey Spellerberg, and State Auditor Mike Foley. During the event, Flood praised Backemeyer for running a campaign focused on issues rather than "character assassinations."
Looking toward the upcoming lame-duck session, Flood identified the Farm Bill, the National Defense Authorization Act, and the Clarity Act as his primary legislative priorities. He also expressed a desire for the war in Iran to end soon, though he noted he does not wish to undermine the president during the conflict. Backemeyer stated that while the result was not the outcome he hoped for, he remained proud of the movement and the campaign's focus on issues important to Nebraskans.
