Bayer Expects $7.25 Billion Roundup Settlement by Christmas
Bayer CEO Bill Anderson expects a $7.25 billion settlement to resolve 65,000 Roundup lawsuits before the end of the year.
CEO Bill Anderson announced that Bayer expects to finalize a $7.25 billion settlement regarding its Roundup weedkiller before Christmas. The proposed agreement is currently under review by a Missouri state court judge in St. Louis and aims to resolve approximately 65,000 claims from plaintiffs who allege that glyphosate, the product's active ingredient, caused non-Hodgkin lymphoma and other cancers.
Bayer maintains that decades of research prove glyphosate is safe. Following a Supreme Court victory in June, the company internally separated its U.S. Roundup business into a new unit called Ruveon. Anderson stated that the settlement could occur any week and will leave only a small number of individual cases remaining.
