Namo Bharat Rapid Rail Surpasses 4.5 Crore Passenger Journeys
The Namo Bharat rapid rail system recorded over 4.5 crore passenger journeys since its 2023 launch on the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.
The Namo Bharat rapid rail transit system has recorded more than 4.5 crore passenger journeys since its inauguration in October 2023. Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar announced the milestone during the Namo Bharat Diwas 2026 celebration, which marked three years of operations on the 82-km Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut corridor.
The system currently serves over 1.1 lakh daily commuters, with a peak single-day ridership of approximately 1.68 lakh. To support this growth, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation is pursuing expansion into new corridors. The Delhi-Panipat-Karnal and Delhi-Gurugram-Behror routes are awaiting approval, while the Ghaziabad-Jewar and Noida-Faridabad-Gurgaon corridors are in the detailed project report stage.
To improve environmental sustainability, the agency is implementing a Solar on Track initiative and developing a 110 MW captive solar power plant. Managing Director Shalabh Goel stated that the system contributes to a more connected and sustainable region.
