Canada Grants First Phosphate $4.84 Million for Quebec Infrastructure

The Government of Canada has finalized agreements to provide First Phosphate Corp. with $4.84 million in non-repayable contributions through the First and Last Mile Fund. The funding supports the Bégin-Lamarche Phosphate Deposit in Quebec's Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean region, following a separate $16.7 million award from the Global Partnerships Initiative in March 2026.

Of the new funds, $3.07 million is allocated for the study and design of substations and a 161-kV power transmission line. The remaining $1.77 million will fund the planning of a new access road and upgrades to bypass roads that connect the mine to rail links and the Port of Saguenay.

The project aims to build a North American supply chain for high-purity igneous phosphate, a critical component for lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries. Officials and company leadership stated that these investments strengthen supply chains and provide confidence to international partners in the ability to deliver resources to market on schedule.
