ZeniMax Online Delays Elder Scrolls Online Features to 2027
ZeniMax Online Studios pushed major game features to 2027 following Xbox-mandated layoffs of over 200 employees.
ZeniMax Online Studios has delayed several major features for The Elder Scrolls Online to 2027 after a corporate restructuring at Microsoft and Xbox led to the loss of 213 employees. Game Director Nick Giacomini announced that high-complexity updates, including the Crimson Veldt PvE trial, Update 52 with the Jerall Pass PvP zone and Rimegales, and a comprehensive Class and Combat refresh, will be pushed back to ensure quality.
Giacomini stated the studio is prioritizing quality experiences over calendar dates to avoid rushing deadlines. To mitigate the impact of the workforce reduction, ZeniMax Online is initiating closer collaboration with Bethesda Game Studios to align efforts across the franchise. Giacomini also teased all-new Skyrim experiences planned for 2027.
Despite the delays, a revised 2026 roadmap remains active. Update 51, introducing the Nowhere Vault and three-sided Battlegrounds, is scheduled for September 28. Season Two will begin October 21 with new solo dungeons, and the Greymoor Chapter and Markarth DLC will become free on November 9. The studio maintains that it remains the same size as it was during the development of the Wrothgar and Summerset expansions.
