Bethesda Announces Fallout 5 and New Roadmap on Reddit

Todd Howard revealed plans for Fallout 5, The Elder Scrolls 6, and several remasters while confirming he has no plans to retire from Bethesda Game Studios.

Todd Howard, director of Bethesda Game Studios, announced a new release roadmap that puts Fallout 5 in preproduction and The Elder Scrolls 6 in active production. Howard also confirmed that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are in development, while Obsidian Entertainment is creating a new title in the Fallout series. Additionally, a major Fallout 76 expansion called Raven Rock is planned for 2027.

Engaging with fans on Reddit, Howard described himself as a professional lurker who monitors the platform for game ideas and feedback. Some users responded by urging the studio to patch The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which has not received a PC update since July 2025. These announcements coincide with a strategic reset under Xbox CEO Asha Sharma, who is focusing the division on core franchises following significant layoffs.

In a separate interview with Bloomberg, Howard addressed the recent layoffs at Bethesda, calling the experience really tough and explaining that the company is changing how it operates to better focus on primary franchises. He also dismissed rumors regarding his departure from the industry, stating he has no plans to retire. Xbox Chief Creative Officer Matt Booty added that development on The Elder Scrolls 6 is coming along well.
