Nvidia and TSMC Dominate AI Semiconductor Market

Nvidia and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company maintain dominant market shares in AI chip design and fabrication amid shifting compute demands and volatile stock valuations.

The artificial intelligence semiconductor market remains dominated by Nvidia Inc. and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), as AI compute shifts from model training toward inference. Nvidia currently holds over 70% of the inference market and is expanding its reach into physical AI for autonomous vehicles and humanoid robots.

TSMC serves as the primary foundry partner for Nvidia, Apple, and Sony, controlling 73% of the third-party chip manufacturing market. This position allows TSMC to act as a price maker, with reports suggesting potential price increases of up to 20% for advanced chip packaging. As of the second quarter of 2026, TSMC accounted for over 70% of global chip foundry revenue.

While design leaders like Nvidia and AMD capture significant attention, fabrication specialists including TSMC and Micron Technology provide the essential logic and memory chips required for AI units. Micron operates in the more volatile commodity-driven memory market, where management expects supply-demand conditions to tighten further through 2028.

Despite long-term growth projections for the semiconductor industry to reach $2.3 trillion by 2030, recent market volatility has led to significant stock pullbacks. Micron shares fell approximately 30% and TSMC shares dropped roughly 19% over the past month, creating low valuation multiples that analysts identify as high-value opportunities for 2026 and 2027.
