Amazon Ring Launches Neighbours Community App in United Kingdom

The doorbell camera maker Ring will launch its Neighbours community app in the United Kingdom on October 21. Integrated into the existing Ring app, the free service provides a moderated message board for safety, local matters, and lost pets, allowing users to set a community radius between 0.1 and five miles.

Ring Managing Director of International Dave Ward stated the service aims to restore local connections previously found on village noticeboards, avoiding the broad flood of information often found in WhatsApp groups that users eventually mute. While basic anonymized posting is available at launch, features used in the United States—including Community Requests for police footage and Neighbours Verified for emergency services—will be released later this year.

To address privacy concerns, the company is introducing TAKE (throw away the key encryption). This default mechanism blocks law enforcement and company access to recordings after 24 hours unless the user provides explicit consent.
