AMD Invests $5 Billion in Anthropic for GPU Deployment
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. announced a $5 billion investment in Anthropic to deploy 2 gigawatts of Instinct MI450 GPUs via Helios rack-scale solutions.
Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. and Anthropic announced a strategic partnership on July 22, 2026, centered on a massive expansion of AI compute infrastructure. As part of the agreement, AMD will provide a strategic equity investment of up to $5 billion to Anthropic. This financial backing supports the deployment of up to 2 gigawatts of AMD Instinct MI450 Series GPUs utilizing AMD Helios rack-scale solutions, with the first gigawatt of deployment scheduled for the first half of 2027.
The companies will engage in a multi-year engineering collaboration to optimize workloads for AMD Instinct GPUs and accelerate the development of ROCm software using Anthropic's Claude AI. To streamline its own internal operations, AMD will integrate Claude across its engineering and product development teams.
Anthropic's leadership emphasized that access to diversified hardware is critical for maintaining the frontier capabilities of Claude and meeting customer demand. AMD executives stated that the collaboration combines frontier AI leadership with high-performance computing to establish Helios as a major platform for next-generation AI infrastructure.
