Apple Launches iPhone Duo Foldable Smartphone on October 23
Apple Inc. will release its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, on October 23 following a developer push for app optimization.
Apple Inc. will launch the iPhone Duo, its first foldable smartphone, on October 23, with pre-orders beginning October 16. Unveiled at a September event in Cupertino, the device features a compact cover screen and a 7.6-inch internal iPad-style display. The hardware includes aerospace-grade aluminium, a matte finish to hide the screen crease, and support for the Apple Pencil. Technical specifications feature the A20 Pro chip, a dual-lens camera, Touch ID, and MagSafe compatibility, with pricing starting at £1,999.
CEO John Ternus described the device as the most transformational change to the iPhone since the original model. To support the rollout, the company is now urging developers to optimize their applications using Xcode 27.1. Apps that meet these requirements will receive a badge on the App Store indicating optimization for the iPhone Duo.
Apple is providing a dedicated website and hosting in-person workshops to assist developers during this transition. Additionally, the company has mandated that all new apps must include a screenshot of the foldable device starting in April 2027.
