South Africa Audits Election Results System Before November Vote
The Electoral Commission of South Africa is auditing its results system with political party experts to ensure integrity for the November 4 local government elections.
The Electoral Commission of South Africa launched an audit of its Election Results System to ensure the integrity, security, and reliability of the process ahead of local government elections on November 4, 2026. The system is responsible for capturing and collating results and assigning seats to contestants.
The review process began on October 5 and is scheduled to conclude on October 12. This internal exercise follows a previously completed independent external audit. To maintain transparency, the commission included information and communications technology experts from four political parties: the African National Congress, Democratic Alliance, uMkhonto we Sizwe Party, and African Christian Democratic Party.
Commission officials stated the measures are intended to ensure the electoral process remains transparent, credible, inclusive, and compliant with the law.
