Norwegian Air Traffic Controller Strike Disrupts Thousands of Flights
Norwegian air traffic controllers began a strike following failed negotiations, causing widespread flight cancellations and planned airspace closures across the country.
A strike by the Norwegian Air Traffic Controllers' Association has caused widespread flight disruptions across Norway after negotiations with the employers' organization Spekter and Avinor Flysikring failed. The labor action led to a five-hour total suspension of air traffic at Oslo Airport on Sunday morning, from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. local time.
Norwegian Air Shuttle canceled 72 flights during the Oslo closure, affecting approximately 95,000 passengers. Disruptions also extended to Bergen and Stavanger airports, where temporary airspace closures over western Norway caused mounting delays and cancellations.
The union intends to escalate the strike starting Tuesday by adding eight more controllers to the action. This expansion is expected to disrupt operations at Tromso Airport and affect airspace over central and northern Norway.
