Legal Defense Fund Sues Trump Administration Over Iranian Data Sharing
The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund is seeking to block the U.S. government from sharing confidential asylum seeker information with the Iranian government.
The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund (IALDF) filed a motion on Wednesday seeking a stay and preliminary injunction to prevent the U.S. government from sharing confidential information of Iranian asylum seekers with the Iranian government. This action follows a lawsuit filed last week against the Trump administration.
The lawsuit alleges that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has transferred sensitive files, including asylum applications, to the Iranian Interest Section in Washington, D.C., since March 2025. The IALDF claims this practice exposes pro-democracy protesters, religious minorities, and LGBTQ individuals to persecution, torture, or death. The organization further alleges that more than 100 nationals have been deported via three flights since September 2025.
The Department of Homeland Security denied the allegations, stating that ICE only works to obtain travel documents and facilitate lawful consular access. The State Department declined to comment on the pending litigation.
