Alberta Referendum Sees Record Advance Voter Turnout
The Government of Alberta conducted a provincial referendum on October 19, 2026, following a record-breaking surge in advance and special ballot casting.
The Government of Alberta held a provincial referendum on Monday, October 19, 2026, with polling stations open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The vote followed a period of high early engagement, as 1,356,873 eligible electors cast advance and special ballots prior to the general vote.
These early votes represented 43.1 per cent of the 3.15 million eligible voters in the province. The total included more than 837,000 advance votes and 519,000 special ballots.
This level of participation marks a significant increase over the 2023 provincial election. During that cycle, advance and special ballots totaled just under 810,000, which accounted for 27.5 per cent of eligible voters.
