China's National Data Administration Sets Embodied AI Data Standards

The National Data Administration of China announced plans to develop data standards for embodied artificial intelligence and provide guidance to local authorities. This regulatory push follows a September 10 meeting chaired by agency head Liu Liehong with representatives from research institutes, humanoid-robotics organizations, and technology companies.

The initiative responds to a request from seven companies ten days prior for common standards and public data infrastructure. The agency aims to encourage corporate investment in data resources to meet the high demand for large-scale datasets required to train humanoid robots.

To address the shortage of high-quality training data, China has established over 70 embodied AI training grounds, primarily focused on industrial manufacturing, with 46 additional sites planned or under construction.
