Train Derailment Between Southend Victoria and Wickford Disrupts Rail

Greater Anglia suspended multiple rail services after a train derailment caused extensive infrastructure damage between Southend Victoria and Wickford.

A train derailment on Friday between Southend Victoria and Wickford caused extensive damage to railway infrastructure, resulting in major rail disruption across the region. Network Rail warned that the affected line is unlikely to reopen before the end of the weekend, with potential delays continuing into next week.

The incident forced the closure of all lines between Southend Victoria and Wickford, impacting routes to London Liverpool Street, Southminster, and Braintree. Greater Anglia suspended services between Billericay and Hockley, as well as between Wickford and Southminster.

To mitigate the impact, Greater Anglia is operating half-hourly shuttle trains between Liverpool Street and Billericay and between Southend Victoria and Hockley. Rail replacement buses are running between Billericay and Hockley and between Wickford and Southminster. Additionally, Greater Anglia tickets are being accepted on c2c services, London Underground, and various Arriva and First bus routes.
