Peter Obi Vows to Defend 2027 Votes at Port Harcourt Town Hall

Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Peter Obi declared during a town hall meeting in Port Harcourt that he is prepared to die to protect his votes in the 2027 general election. Speaking at the Obi Talks Nigeria event, Obi urged citizens to prevent a recurrence of the voter intimidation and irregularities he alleges occurred during the 2023 election.

Obi specifically criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission for the failure of the IReV electronic result upload system in the previous cycle. He asserted that the NDC will implement coordination mechanisms to prevent intimidation at polling booths and deploy alternative technological measures to bypass potential network glitches or manipulations of the result viewing portal.

NDC Vice Presidential Candidate Rabiu Kwankwaso also addressed the gathering, warning voters against choosing incompetent leaders and predicting that the ruling All Progressives Congress would lose the next election.

These declarations follow a call from the Igbo Heroes and Icons Foundation for opposition parties to adopt Obi as their consensus candidate for 2027. The foundation cited Obi's tenure as governor of Anambra State as evidence of his administrative capacity and argued that the South-East region is overdue for a presidency, as it has not produced an elected president since 1999.
