Kano PDP Affirms Muhammad Sani Abacha as Governor Candidate

The Kano State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party affirmed Muhammad Sani Abacha as its governorship candidate on September 16, 2026. The move followed the voluntary resignation of the previous candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu, after consultations between party stakeholders in Kano and Abuja.

To formalize the transition, the party conducted a replacement primary election witnessed by representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission. Panel chairman Abba Abdullahi formally declared Abacha the winner of the process.

As part of a broader effort to resolve internal factional disputes, the party conceded the deputy governorship slot to the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki group. Former factional chairman Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya was named as the deputy governorship candidate. Party Chairman Bello Gambo Bichi noted that the PDP also replaced several National Assembly and state assembly candidates to accommodate members of the rival faction, asserting that these steps unify the organization ahead of the 2027 general elections.
