India Electronics Production Grows Seven-Fold Over Last Decade

The Ministry of Electronics & IT reports that India's electronics manufacturing grew nearly seven-fold since 2014, driven by the Make in India and PLI initiatives.

The Ministry of Electronics & IT reports that India's electronics manufacturing sector expanded nearly seven-fold over the last decade. Production rose from Rs 1.90 lakh crore in 2014-15 to an estimated Rs 13.11 lakh crore in 2025-26, creating nearly 25 lakh jobs.

This expansion resulted from the Government of India's Make in India initiative and the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme. By March 31, 2026, the PLI Scheme for Large Scale Electronics Manufacturing attracted more than Rs 20,600 crore in cumulative investments. Electronic goods have consequently become the third-largest export category for India, reaching $47.96 billion in FY26.

The mobile phone segment experienced the most significant growth, with production increasing 33-fold and exports rising 165-fold. The sector has also seen a notable shift in workforce demographics, with women comprising nearly 30% of the total electronics workforce and approximately 70% of the direct workforce specifically within mobile phone manufacturing.
