Home Remodeling Costs Hit Decade High as Manufacturers Raise Prices
Home repair and remodeling costs reached a decade high in October 2026, prompting major manufacturers to implement price hikes to offset rising material and freight costs.
Home repair and remodeling costs reached a decade high in October 2026, marking an approximate 64% increase since 2016. Data from Verisk indicates that the three months ending in June experienced the fastest quarterly price growth since October 2024, a trend driven by rising oil and energy prices and elevated interest rates linked to the Iran conflict.
To offset surging freight and material costs for aluminum, copper, and steel, several major manufacturers have implemented or planned price increases. Sherwin-Williams Co., Pool Corp., and Carrier Global Corp. raised prices in September, while Armstrong World Industries Inc. increased prices in November following a 20% surge in freight costs. Whirlpool Corp. plans to implement a 7% price increase in December.
Industry outlooks remain mixed. Executives at Stanley Black & Decker Inc. expect inflationary pressures to persist into 2027. Conversely, some firms, including Carlisle Cos Inc., anticipate that pricing will eventually become a tailwind as costs normalize.
