Azerbaijani Soldier Detained After Shooting Woman in Armenia
Armenian police detained Azerbaijani serviceman Nasimi Musaev after he illegally crossed the border and shot a woman in the leg in Syunik Province.
Armenian authorities detained Nasimi Musaev, an Azerbaijani serviceman, on October 1 after he shot a 38-year-old woman in the leg in the village of Shaki, Syunik Province. The shooting occurred inside the victim's home in front of her three children. The woman was hospitalized at the Sisian Medical Centre, though officials stated her life is not in danger.
Armenian police captured Musaev after following blood traces. The incident followed a September 29 warning from Azerbaijan's State Security Service to Armenia's National Security Service, which cautioned that a soldier had left his duty station and might have illegally crossed the border. Azerbaijani authorities later confirmed that Musaev had been missing from a unit in the Lachin direction since September 26.
The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has initiated criminal proceedings regarding the shooting. Simultaneously, the General Prosecutor's Office of Azerbaijan has opened a criminal case against Musaev for desertion.
