Moore and Crosby Clash Over Water and Industry in Utah Debate

Republican Representative Blake Moore and Democrat Peter Crosby debated water rights, data center development, and tariffs during a campaign event at Utah State University.

Republican Representative Blake Moore and Democratic challenger Peter Crosby debated key issues for Utah’s 2nd Congressional District on Tuesday evening at Utah State University. The candidates clashed over the Stratos Project data center development in Box Elder County, where Moore called for improved public engagement while Crosby advocated for local control and public referendums.

On the issue of the Great Salt Lake, Crosby argued that the state must prioritize water allocation over unlimited growth. Moore countered by highlighting his record of securing federal funding for state-led restoration projects.

Economic discussions centered on tariffs and the 'One Big Beautiful Bill.' Crosby claimed the legislation harmed small businesses and the solar industry in Northern Utah. Moore defended his efforts to mitigate tariff impacts for major regional employers, including Procter & Gamble. Both candidates pledged continued support for the regional aerospace industry and Hill Air Force Base.

A poll by the Utah Debate Commission indicates a tight race, with Moore leading at 39% and Crosby at 34%.
