India Launches AI Reforms to Transform Public Service Governance
The Indian government is integrating artificial intelligence into administrative reforms and leadership training to improve citizen-centric service delivery and institutional efficiency.
The Government of India is initiating a governance transformation focused on Next Generation Administrative and e-Governance Reforms to shift from a regulatory approach to one of facilitation. During a national conference in Shillong, Minister of State for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences Jitendra Singh announced that future reforms will prioritize artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and digital public infrastructure. A key development in this effort is the transition of the Centralised Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System into a technology-enabled platform using AI-powered multilingual chatbots to manage nearly 25 lakh annual grievances.
Parallel to these policy shifts, the government launched the AI Champions for Digital Governance programme in New Delhi on July 13, 2026. This three-day initiative, organized by the India Tourism Development Corporation along with the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises and the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, aligns with the broader IndiaAI Mission. The program trains senior leadership and operational teams in generative AI and data-based decision-making.
During the launch, officials emphasized the necessity of organizational transformation. S Radha Chauhan and Vivek Aggarwal noted that AI has evolved from an optional tool into an essential capability required to strengthen institutional proficiency and deliver better public outcomes.
