China and Bangladesh Expand Strategic Infrastructure and Technology Ties
China and Bangladesh have expanded their comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership through new investments in green energy, digital infrastructure, and regional connectivity projects.
The Government of China and the Government of Bangladesh have deepened bilateral cooperation across the infrastructure, energy, and technology sectors. This expansion follows the 2024 elevation of their relationship to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Central to this partnership is the Padma Bridge, which has enhanced regional connectivity and logistics. Cooperation has since scaled into green energy, with Chinese enterprises supporting wind and solar projects to help Bangladesh meet its 2030 target of 20% renewable energy. The two nations are also pursuing the Smart Bangladesh vision, focusing on cloud computing, 5G readiness, and digital infrastructure.
Additional initiatives include a Chinese-funded water purification system in Dhaka and a joint venture with the United Nations Development Programme to provide sewing machines for employment. Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, a senior adviser to Bangladesh's Ministry of Finance and Planning Affairs, described the Padma Bridge as a model of cooperation that has improved urban services and development resilience.
